Boehner Quiet on Trade Bill Whip Count

Speaker John A. Boehner reminded reporters Thursday he is not the whip, dodging questions about timing and whether Republicans had enough votes to pass “fast-track” trade legislation at his weekly news conference.“I’m not the whip, so I don’t get into vote counts,” Boehner said, responding to earlier remarks by Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi that he would need 200 votes to pass a trade bill. When asked if trade legislation would pass the House before the end of June, Boehner replied, “sooner is better than later.”“If we don’t get it done in June, I don’t know why you think we’ll get it done in July.” Read more.
