Aloha, Taste of Hawaii Two!
Sen. Mazie K. Hirono is expected Wednesday to preside over the second annual Taste of Hawaii on Capitol Hill — a reception so widely attended last year that organizers had to book a bigger space this time around.
The regional expo is scheduled to take place Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. in Dirksen G-50. The Hawaii Democrat told local TV outlets that hundreds of folks poured into the inaugural taste-around held last summer, exposing the roughly two dozen featured exhibitors to wave after wave of famished staffers, members and congressional reporters.
Promoters said they were looking forward to introducing guests to the 50 vendors traveling into town for the latest promotional blitz. At press time, the roster of participating businesses remained in flux, but in a release, Team Hirono is promising an abundance of “pineapple, papaya, Hawaiian-style ahi poke, kalua pork, coffee, chocolates, and more.”
The “more” being Spam musubi.
Musicians Willie K and Amy Hānaiali’i are also expected to perform.
If you miss them in Dirksen, head on over to Philos Mezze & Wine Bar at 401 Massachusetts Ave. NW around 8 p.m. to catch their later show.
