Sen. Bill Nelson, who has a history of issuing friendly wagers on Florida sports, found himself on the losing end Wednesday.Nelson, 72, and Sen. Richard J. Durbin wagered food and beer on the Stanley Cup Final, pitting the Chicago Blackhawks against the Tampa Bay Lightning, but in addition to betting food, the losing senator was required to do pushups equaling the number of goals scored throughout the series. The Blackhawks clinched the series in six games Monday night, giving Chicago its third Cup in six years. Even though the teams combined to score 23 goals in the series, Durbin agreed to double the pushup amount Wednesday afternoon and forego the Cuban sandwiches Nelson wagered. “Thank God you lost and I didn’t,” Durbin said after Nelson accomplished his feat of strength. “They’d be taking me out of here on a stretcher.”
