Steve Daines Wants Jeannette Rankin on #TheNew10
Sen. Steve Daines, hoping to get out ahead of Treasury’s recently announced hunt for the next face to grace the $10 bill, is placing his pick for Alexander Hamilton’s successor in the hopper.
The Montana Republican has drafted a proposal — the “Celebrating the First Woman in Congress Currency Act” — urging the administration to commemorate former Rep. Jeannette Rankin, R-Mont., ahead of all others. Rankin was the first woman ever elected to Congress, shattering that particular glass ceiling when she joined the Treasure State delegation in 1916.
Based on all the nominations bouncing around Twitter , Daines appears to be in the minority. The historical figures garnering the most attention online include abolitionist Harriet Tubman and former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt.
