Pelosi: Congress Should Let Puerto Rico Declare Bankruptcy

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Thursday said Puerto Rico should be able to declare bankruptcy, following an announcement last month from the island’s governor that its $72 billion debt is “not payable.”“I think that Congress should pass legislation that enables Puerto Rico to declare bankruptcy,” Pelosi said. “I think it is really one important step in bringing them to solvency.”
