House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Thursday responded to Defense Secretary Ashton B. Carter’s testimony earlier in the week that the U.S. has trained only 60 Syrians to fight the Islamic State terror group, calling the low number “surprising.””It was I think a surprising number,” Pelosi said. “I appreciate his candor, because for such a long time during the Iraq War and during the [George W.] Bush years, we were told that so many more thousands — tens of thousands — of people were being trained when it was a very small percentage of that.”
