Sen. Barbara Boxer is retiring at the end of 2016, and between now and then she’ll be collecting the customary number of thank yous as she prepares for post-Congress life.

The first woman to chair the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will add another award to her mantle on Wednesday evening, as she receives the inaugural Environmental Working Group Courage Award at its third annual gala. The event’s keynote speaker is author, health advocate and cancer survivor Kris Carr and Harper Simon, son of Paul Simon, will provide the music. The shindig will take place at D.C.’s Carnegie Library. The congressional host committee includes Boxer allies such as her home-state, Bay-area colleagues, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Dianne Feinstein, as well as several other members of Congress.

“The Environmental Working Group is the most effective organization leading the fight to protect our families from dangerous toxins. Therefore receiving the group’s inaugural Courage Award is an honor I will cherish forever,” the California Democrat said in a statement to Roll Call.
