Joint Chiefs Chair: ISIL ‘Not Contained’

The Wall Street Journal reports that “the chairman of the Pentagon’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford, told lawmakers Tuesday Islamic State isn’t contained.”

“’We have not contained ISIL,’ Gen. Dunford said in response to a question from Rep. Randy Forbes (R., Va.), using another name for Islamic State. The nation’s top uniformed officer, Gen. Dunford was appearing alongside Defense Secretary Ash Carter at a House Armed Services Committee hearing on the Obama administration’s strategy to confront Islamic State.”

“Mr. Forbes then asked if the group had been contained at any time since 2010.”
