Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., was back in the Capitol Thursday and reunited with a Senate food worker. In a social media post, he said the workers deserve a raise.

“Well, did you?” Biden’s verified Instagram account commented underneath the photo . “Great seeing you again, and thanks for the frozen yogurt. By the way, you all deserve a raise. —VP.”

Biden was in the Capitol Thursday to attend the unveiling of former vice president Dick Cheney’s marble bust. Biden’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the Instagram post.

Bailey is one of the dozens of Senate workers who have gone on strike over the past year to call for higher wages and union representation. She has spoken at strikes about her experience, describing how low wages in the Senate forced her to work two jobs, damaging her health. She suffered a miscarriage and could not afford to take time off.

Top Senate Democratic leaders have been calling for the Senate Rules and Administration Committee to incorporate a wage increase and collective bargaining rights into its negotiations to extend the food vendor’s contract with the Senate. Staffers have also shown their support for Senate workers, holding weekly brown bag lunches in the Dirksen Senate Office Building to protest the vendor, Restaurant Associates.
