Durbin said at a news conference Tuesday that GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump’s proposal that the U.S. ban Muslims from entering the country was “disgusting” and “unconstitutional.” “If there is not a clear break between the Republican party and what Donald Trump has said, from top to bottom, shame on that party, that Grand Old Party,” Durbin said. Minority Leader Harry Reid added that the Republican party is “so branded” by Trump’s rhetoric that he “can’t imagine how [one] would register as a Republican.”
