A longtime Hillary Clinton adviser seemed to think Sen. Charles E. Schumer was happy to see the current Democratic presidential candidate leave the world’s greatest deliberative body.  

In an internal State Department email released Friday as part of the latest dump of Clinton emails from her time as secretary of State, Philippe Reines called Schumer “a good man who is just so happy she left the Senate.”  

In an exchange released  as part of the department’s latest dump of Clinton’s emails from her time as secretary of State, Reines is informed that the New York Democrat (who was Clinton’s senior partner in the delegation) offered a glowing review of Clinton’s testimony at a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing about Benghazi.  

Miguel Rodriguez, a longtime Clinton aide who would later become President Barack Obama’s point man on legislative affairs, had sent an email detailing what happened around a meeting with Schumer and would-be Secretary of State John Kerry about his nomination.  

“Schumer couldn’t stop raving about HRC’s performance and stamina. He kept talking about her appearance in the morning at SFRC and how she commanded the proceedings,” Rodriguez wrote. “Even as he was walking out of the room, he kept saying, ‘I can’t believe it … look … she’s still going!'”  

“He seemed sincerely impressed,” the email said.  

“I’m not surprised about Chuck. At his core he’s a good man,” Reines replied. “A good man who is just so happy she left the Senate.”  

Reines was an adviser to Clinton while she was in the Senate and for her 2008 presidential campaign. He was a senior adviser to Clinton and deputy assistant secretary while she ran the State Department.
