Rep. Ben Ray Luján, the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, said Friday he supports Hillary Clinton for president.

In a statement, the New Mexico lawmaker said, “Clinton is the best choice for President by far,” opting against her opponent in the Democratic primary, Vermont Sen. Bernard Sanders.

“Hillary has the determination to defend and expand our country’s economic and social progress, and to continue to break down barriers and move our country forward, so that opportunity reaches everyone,” he said.
“Hillary has strength, compassion and a sense of responsibility to care for others that is second to none.”

Alluding to other down-ballot races across the country, like those Luján is charged with helping Democrats win, he said it will be Clinton whose coattails will be beneficial to other Democrats.

“She has what it takes to connect with a diverse group of voters across the country and will fight to motivate and unite people behind her, which will benefit all Democrats come November,” he said.

Luján’s Republican counterpart, Oregon Rep. Greg Walden, who chairs the National Republican Congressional Committee, has not endorsed in his party’s presidential nominating contest.
