“Here in Washington D.C., there are zombies living amongst us,” says the voice of CNN’s Jake Tapper (a Roll Call alumnus!). The audio clip is from a recent report of his that the Republican Conference chairwoman’s team modified, going so far as to slow down his voice so it sounds even creepier.
The video is all to push her Unauthorized Spending Accountability Act, or USA Act, which would eliminate spending on government programs not authorized by Congress.
Not reauthorizing programs has become de rigueur in Capitol Hill’s gridlocked environment, and includes some of the largest and oldest departments and programs in the government, including the National Weather Service and Federal Election Commission.
“These zombies are government programs,” the voice-over continues, with images of the State and Labor departments’ facades flashing. “They’re well past their expiration date, yet Congress still lets them feast on government cash.”
The video ends with a split-second creepy baby-doll screaming, the kind of flash image en vogue in horror movies.
Who knew the State Department was supposed to be scary?
