Rosie the Riveter Gets Her Due in Washington

A lifetime after the slogan “We can do it,” became the memory, “We did do it,” 30 of the thousands of ‘Rosie the Riveters’ — American women who contributed to the war effort during World War II by doing what was then considered the manly work of making bombers and munitions and other needed supplies — were feted and finally thanked for their service in Washington this week.
