Reid Believes Sanders Accepts Clinton as Nominee

Sanders, minority leader meet on Capitol Hill; Reid expects Sanders to campaign for Democrats

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday that he believes Bernie Sanders has accepted Hillary Clinton as the Democratic presidential nominee.

“I didn’t hear a single word about him wanting to change the fact that she’s the nominee.” Reid said after meeting with his fellow senator on Capitol Hill. “I think he’s accepted that.”

Reid said Sanders is in a good place among Senate Democrats and anticipated that he would attend next week’s caucus lunch and would hit the campaign trail for them.

Sen. Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y., also met with Sanders, noting the Vermont independent cares about Democrats taking back the Senate and also keeping his supporters engaged.

After his meeting with Schumer, Sanders didn’t respond when asked if he was disappointed that President Barack Obama endorsed Clinton before next week’s District of Columbia presidential primary.
