Bernie Sanders will vote for Hillary Clinton, he said in an interview Friday morning. But he stopped short of saying that he would embrace her.

“Yes,” he said during an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “I’m going to do everything I can to defeat Donald Trump.”

He added: “I think Trump, in so many ways, will be a disaster for this country if he were to be elected president. We do not need a president whose cornerstone of his campaign is bigotry, is insulting Mexicans and Latinos and Muslims and women, who does not believe in the reality of climate change. … This is not somebody who should become president.”

Asked in a later interview on CNN whether he was ready to “put both arms around,” and “embrace” Clinton, the presumptive Democratic nominee, Sanders demurred.

“What I am trying to do now is, number one, to do everything I can to defeat Donald Trump,” he said. His second priority, he said is to promote policies that would help working people. His relationship with Clinton would be determined by what she does in the upcoming months of her campaign, he said.
