John Oliver Tells U.S.: There Are ‘No F—ing Do-overs’

Compares Brexit to the potential election of Donald Trump

British comedian John Oliver had a simple lesson for Americans, comparing Britain’s vote to leave the European Union to the U.S. presidential election: Don’t screw this up.

Oliver had pleaded with his native Britain to stay in the EU in the buildup to the vote.

But after the vote, Oliver showed footage of a woman who had voted to leave saying she wished she had voted differently now that reality had set in. He told her, “That wasn’t a practice round.”

Oliver then criticized presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s statements praising the Brexit vote as nonsensical.

“If he had simply breathed audibly into the microphone, the same amount of information would have been conveyed,” the comedian said.

In turn, Oliver warned people who thought Trump’s election could not happen, saying Americans might think that “we’re not going to listen to some ridiculously haired buffoon, peddling lies and nativism in hopes of riding a protest vote into power.”

“Let Britain tell you, it can happen,” Oliver said. “And when it does, there are no f–king do-overs.
