Trend watchers noticed a spike in online searches about voter registration even before Khizr Khan left the stage after his passionate rebuke of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump during Thursday’s last night of the Democratic National Convention.  

“Tonight we are honored to stand here as parents of Capt. Humayun Kahn and as patriotic American Muslims,” the Pakistani immigrant said in a loving tribute to his son, an Army captain killed while serving in Iraq.  

He then asked Trump if he had read the Constitution and offered to lend the business mogul his before asking Trump what sacrifices he had made.

Observers noted a real-time spike in queries for voter registration.

A GOP strategist took an unscientific survey afterward and found that Khan’s words were on nearly everyone’s mind.

Asked ppl inside/outside Arena last night what most effective DNC speech had been. 14 of 16 said Cpt. Khan’s dad. Agree. It was POWERFUL.

“It was POWERFUL,” she shared on Twitter.  

Interest in joining the political conversation snowballed as the DNC program rolled along in Philadelphia.  

Moments after Hillary Clinton agreed to become the first female presidential nominee put forward by a major party, the political sphere managed another historic feat: trumping our obsession with pop culture.  

According to Google Trends, “register to vote” overtook “Kim Kardashian” as a source of interest just before midnight.  

The flirtation with civic responsibility proved fleeting: Mrs. Kanye West was back on top less than 10 minutes later.  

Kardashian wasn’t the only women getting online love during the DNC.

Armchair researchers spent a good deal of time looking into the likes of first lady Michelle Obama and comedian Sarah Silverman, the latter having stolen the show on Monday by shaming Bernie or Bust supporters for “being ridiculous.”  

Alternative candidates also managed to move the needle a bit.

In the hours before Clinton’s big moment, more people had burning questions about the Libertarian Party (and, presumably, two-time presidential nominee Gov. Gary Johnson) than the Green Party or the GOP.  

The next order of business appears to be getting up to speed on the forthcoming presidential debates.

Johnson appears to be in the mix there, too.
