Lewandowski Claims Trump Would Have Kept Capt. Khan Alive
GOP nominee's anti-Iraq war stance remains unsubstantiated
Former Donald Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski Monday added a new wrinkle to the Republican presidential nominee’s ongoing battle with the parents of the late Capt. Humayun Khan, asserting that the slain soldier wouldn’t have been killed if Trump had been in charge a decade ago.
“If Donald Trump were the president, Capt. Khan would still be alive today because we never would have entered the Iraq war in the first place,” Lewandowski said during a CNN segment focused on the burgeoning feud between his former boss and Democratic National Convention speaker Khizr Khan.
Humayun Khan was killed by a car bomb in 2004 while serving in Iraq as an Army captain. Trump has lashed out against the Khan family, on Twitter and in interviews over the weekend, for speaking out against him at the Democratic convention.

Although both Trump and Lewandowski continue to place the real estate mogul among the “I-told-you-so” war critics, FactCheck.org has found no evidence of Trump opposing the Iraq war prior to the invasion in March 2003.
Politifact categorized Trump’s claims that he opposed the war as “false .”
