Kelsey Cooper, communications director for Paul’s Senate campaign (he’s running for re-election this year), said the presidential campaign has more cash than bills and and will pay off its debt but didn’t offer a timeline.
“All vendors are being paid in the normal flow of a campaign and everyone will be paid in full,” Cooper said in an email, adding that winding down a campaign takes time.
“It’s beyond ridiculous to suggest that the very typical and normal proceedings of closing out a campaign have anything to do with Dr. Paul’s stellar record of fiscal conservatism,” she said. “Particularly considering that he’s returned nearly $2.5 million in taxpayer dollars from his senate office operating budget back to the Treasury to date.”
Paul faces Democrat Jim Gray, the mayor of Lexington, in his Senate re-election race. The Rothenberg & Gonzales Political Report /Roll Call rates the contest “Safe Republican.”
