Florida Rep. Alan Grayson, in his first sit-down interview  since allegations were raised by his ex-wife that he abused her, said he and his children were abused by his former spouse, the Miami Herald reported.  

In July, Politico reported  that Lolita Grayson had previously called the Orange County Sheriff’s office twice between 2005 and 2014 as well as when the couple lived.   

But the congressman said a video from the most recent incident in 2014 showed that it was Lolita Grayson who pushed him — something she also admitted to the police — and their daughter vouched for his side of the story.

Grayson also said he had reported his ex-wife to the state’s Department of Children and Families many times, including one instance when he said she bit their son.  

“Here’s the victim of abuse: it’s me and my five children,” he said.

Grayson has denied his ex-wife’s allegations. Their 25-year marriage was annulled last year. In May, the congressman married Dena Minning, who has taken his last name and is running to replace him in Florida’s 9th District.   

The interview comes as Grayson’s opponent in the state’s Democratic primary, Rep. Patrick Murphy, backed out of debating him in light of the domestic abuse allegations, which have already crippled Grayson’s campaign. Four staffers have since quit, the Herald reported, and two liberal groups revoked their endorsements  of Grayson’s Senate bid last month.
