Speaker Paul D. Ryan has joined other senior Wisconsin Republicans who are pushing to put their state into play for the presidential election.

Ryan on Thursday was part of a fundraiser for the Wisconsin congressional delegation that included Gov. Scott Walker and former Gov. Tommy Thompson, sources told Fox News.

The state has not voted Republican for president since 1984, but a recent Marquette University poll showed the race tightening there.

Ryan has also been helping GOP congressional hopefuls across the country try to replicate the success he had in his overwhelming primary victory last month. 

The speaker is a fundraising powerhouse with deep policy and political knowledge, putting him in high demand among congressional candidates.
