Hugh Halpern, the longtime staff director of the House Rules Committee, will be taking over as director of floor operations for Speaker Paul D. Ryan.

A senior Republican aide confirmed the move Tuesday morning.

Halpern will succeed Anne Bradbury, who Politico reported Tuesday is leaving Capitol Hill for the Duberstein Group.

“We could not ask for a more qualified person to step into this role than Hugh Halpern,” Ryan said in a statement. “No one knows the rules of the House better than Hugh, and he is trusted — and respected — by every member of the institution. I’m excited to have him on the team.”
