Republican Claudia Tenney Elected in New York’s 22nd District
Three-way race determined replacement for GOP Rep. Richard Hanna
Republican Claudia Tenney will defeat Democrat Kim Myers and Upstate Jobs Party candidate Martin Babinec in New York’s 22nd District, The Associated Press projects.
Tenney led Myers and Babinec 46 percent to 42 percent and 12 percent, respectively, with 82 percent of precincts reporting.
The three-way race in the central New York district was a potential pickup opportunity for Democrats, who originally saw a path to the House majority running through New York.
Tenney will replace moderate GOP Rep. Richard Hanna, who is retiring. Hanna still made news this cycle when he announced he would vote for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
New York’s 22nd District includes Chenango, Cortland, Madison and Oneida counties and parts of Broome, Herkimer, Tioga and Oswego counties.
Coming into Election Day, the race was rated a Tossup by the Rothenberg & Gonzales Political Report/Roll Call.
