Texas Republican Rep. Bill Flores told Roll Call Wednesday that he plans to run for vice chairman of the House Republican Conference.

“I have informed several members of that choice,” Flores said, noting he planned to make a formal announcement to members later Wednesday.

Flores, the outgoing chair of the conservative Republican Study Committee, said he decided to run under because he heard that current vice chair Lynn Jenkins, R-Kan., was not going to seek re-election but that he would still stay in the race if Jenkins decides to run again.

A Jenkins spokesman did not immediately return a request for comment Wednesday.
