Planned Parenthood Thanks Pence for Donations
Protesters make a statement through donations in VP-elect's name
Anti-Donald Trump activists took their fight online over the weekend by donating to Planned Parenthood in Vice President-elect Mike Pence’s name.
When people donate, they can do it in honor of someone and list that person’s address so they receive a certificate. Donors posted screen grabs of the donation page on social media, showing they sent the certificate to Pence’s office, NBC Chicago reported.
Pence, as a six-term congressman and as Indiana governor, has supported defunding Planned Parenthood and overturning Roe v. Wade.
He signed a controversial abortion ban into law in Indiana in March, which sought to prevent women from seeking an abortion due to fetal genetic abnormalities, or because of the fetus’ race, sex, or ancestry. Any doctors performing abortions for those reasons would be subject to discipline and could be sued for wrongful death, as well.
The law was eventually struck down by a federal judge.

Planned Parenthood received a boost in donations after Trump’s win last Tuesday, Reuters reported. The nonprofit organization said it has received about 80,000 donations nationwide since the election.
Singer Katy Perry donated $10,000 to the group last week, as well. She shared a screen shot of the donation page along with a personal testimony on Instagram.
“I am making a public donation to Planned Parenthood for the teenage me who made several visits to, first, a clinic in Santa Barbara, and then Los Angeles, CA, to educate myself on my sexual health, a subject I had little to no information on because of my sheltered upbringing,” she wrote.
Perry encouraged other women to “become a member and an ally” of Planned Parenthood.
Planned Parenthood alluded to the Pence protest donations in a statement.
Thank you so much! We’ve been blown away by the support we’ve received. Many people are donating in Clinton or Pence’s name. #WeWontGoBack
