Teens Charged With Murder in Davis’ Grandson Slaying
Jovan Wilson was shot and killed Friday in Chicago

Suspects in the shooting death of Illinois Rep. Danny K. Davis’ 15-year-old grandson have been charged with first-degree murder, according to the Chicago Police Department.
Jovan Wilson was shot in the head late Nov. 18 in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood after arguing with the two teenage assailants over a pair of gym shoes, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Davis, a longtime Democratic representative of Illinois’ 7th District, told the Tribune he learned about the shooting after returning to his Chicago office from Washington, D.C.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi extended her sympathies to Davis and his family in a statement, calling the shooting “an awful tragedy, yet another act of senseless gun violence that has claimed a beloved young man who should have had a whole life ahead of him.”
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich tweeted out his support: “The murder of Congressman Danny Davis’ 15-year-old grandson in a Chicago home invasion is reminder we need a federal strategy to save lives,” Gingrich wrote on Friday.
Wilson’s slaying comes as Chicago continues to reckon with high levels of violent crime.
