Poe Announces Remission From Leukemia
Texas Republican revealed diagnosis in July
Rep. Ted Poe said Thursday that his leukemia is in remission.
The Texas Republican, 68, announced his diagnosis in July. He was sworn in this week for a seventh term in Congress, representing the Lone Star State’s 2nd District.
“Being sworn in is always an honor and a privilege, but this year is even more special for me. I am happy to also announce today that I am in remission from leukemia,” Poe said in a statement. “My fight is not yet over, but the progress that has been made in the last six months has been nothing short of miraculous.”
A former county prosecutor known for folksy quips, Poe, most mornings, is one of the first speakers on the House floor, offering conservative messages and ending each speech, “And that’s just the way it is.”
Poe said he would continue to receive treatment in Washington and Houston.
In September, his office began handing out #TeamPoe bracelets to show support for the congressman.
