Rep. Abraham Saved Rep. Meadows’ Toy Poodle
Former vet took care of his colleague’s dog
North Carolina Republican Mark Meadows’ toy poodle Jolie got into some trouble when she was at work with him on Tuesday.
She jumped from someone’s arms and was injured. Thankfully, Ralph Abraham of Louisiana got a phone call, according to the News Star. The Republican congressman is a former veterinarian.
Abraham was in Speaker Paul D. Ryan’s Tuesday Republican delegation meeting and ran out when a staffer informed him of the poodle emergency.
“She has a slight concussion but I expect her to make a full recovery,” Abraham told the News Star.
Abraham is trained as a veterinarian, a private pilot and and as a doctor.
He received his veterinary medicine degree in 1980 from Louisiana State University. He went to Louisiana State for a medical degree after working as a veterinarian for 10 years and serving in the Mississippi National Guard for three years.
He worked on humans as a physician until he ran for Congress in 2014.
Another veterinarian-turned-politician is Ted Yoho of Florida, who also has received in-House calls to work on pets of other members of Congress.
