House Speaker Paul D. Ryan transferred more than $4.4 million to the National Republican Congressional Committee in February, breaking his record for the same period last year. 

The first few months of an off-year are usually a slower time for fundraising, but a rocky first full month of Donald Trump’s presidency doesn’t seem to have hurt Ryan’s sway with GOP donors. 

His February figures represent the third-largest transfer to the committee from a Republican speaker. Ryan set the previous two records in March and June of 2016, with $6.3 and $5.4 million respectively.  

Ryan’s political operation has now sent about $50 million to the NRCC since he became speaker including nearly $8 million to the committee this year. He raised an additional $1 million in revenue for the NRCC last month by signing direct mail solicitations.

This time last year, heading into the 2016 elections, Ryan transferred $2.25 million to the committee. 

Republicans will be looking to hold onto and expand their House majority in next year’s midterms, when GOP lawmakers will have to navigate where they stand on Trump’s agenda. The party in the White House has traditionally lost House seats during midterm elections. The NRCC has named 10 incumbents to its Patriot Program for vulnerable members and has identified an initial list of 36 Democratic districts it intends to target in 2018. 

Ryan’s staff cited enthusiasm for a GOP-controlled government for the fundraising boost. “This is an exciting time, and the level of support for the Republican agenda has been simply staggering,” Kevin Seifert, Ryan’s top political adviser and executive director of Team Ryan, said in a statement. “Paul Ryan is grateful for the incredible support, and he remains determined to get the job done,” Seifert added. 

Team Ryan is a joint fundraising committee, which supports the speaker’s political efforts in Wisconsin’s 1st District and Republicans in districts around the country.
