California State Assemblyman Jimmy Gomez and former Los Angeles City Planning Commissioner Robert Lee Ahn appear to be headed for a runoff in California’s 34th Congressional District.

Gomez had 28 percent of the vote with 100 percent of precincts reporting, according to The Associated Press. Ahn, received 19 percent of the vote in the 24-candidate field.

Provisional and late-arriving mail-in ballots are still being counted and complete results might not be available until Friday, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The election came after Xavier Becerra vacated his seat to become state attorney general once Kamala Harris was elected to the Senate.

Gomez received a number of endorsements from top Democrats, including that of Becerra. Ahn would be the first Korean-American elected to the House.

The runoff is scheduled for June 6.
