The National Republican Senatorial Committee raised $7 million in March, its highest monthly haul for a non-election year.

So far this year, the Senate Republicans’ campaign arm has raised more than $16 million and has more than $13 million in cash on hand, according to numbers obtained first by Roll Call.

For comparison, in March 2015 — the previous off-year — the NRSC raised $4.8 million. Last month’s haul even outpaced the March 2016 number by about $1 million.

The NRSC has attracted 20,000 new donors this cycle. Republicans are mostly on offense this year, defending just nine Senate seats while Democrats are defending 25. The NRSC outraised the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in February, although monthly fundraising victories aren’t always indicative of electoral success.
