Word on the Hill: 4/20
Professional development opportunities today
DCMJ is hosting its first ever cannabis giveaway today, also known as a #JointSession, in honor of 4/20 or as some consider it, National Weed Day.
All members of Congress, staffers, journalists, support staff, and interns are invited to get a free joint starting at “high noon” at the corner of First St. and Constitution Ave. NE. You just need to be 21 years old or older and present a valid congressional ID.
DCMJ, a.k.a. the DC Cannabis Campaign, is the group that led the signature effort to get Initiative 71 on the ballot in 2014. The initiative, overwhelmingly backed by D.C. voters, legalized possession of minimal amounts of marijuana for recreational use in the District.
Watch for HOH’s coverage.
Get some professional development
It’s the middle of Professional Development Week, hosted by the Congressional Black Associates, the Congressional Hispanic Staff Association, the Congressional Asian Pacific American Staff Association, and the Senate Black Staffer Legislative Caucus. There are two “how to be” panels remaining, to be held in the Capitol Visitor Center. Today’s panel is on being a legislative correspondent and Friday’s is on being a legislative assistant.
Also today, there is a TriCaucus Happy Hour at Sonoma (223 Pennsylvania Ave. SE) at 5:30 p.m. See their events page for details.
