A second Democratic challenger has entered the race against Colorado Republican Rep. Mike Coffman.

David Aarsetad announced his candidacy Thursday, saying that Coffman’s support of Republicans’ failed attempt to repeal and replace the 2010 health care law was a motivator for him, the Aurora Sentinel reported.

“Congressman Coffman has voted with Trump 96 percent of the time,” Aarestad said. “Trumpcare would have devastated struggling families like mine.”

Aarsetad’s wife is a survivor of breast cancer and his daughter has Down syndrome. He is a clinical trials contract attorney for the University of Colorado at Anschutz.  

Coffman’s district is an increasingly purple district and Colorado’s 6th Congressional District is among targets for the the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Last week, Jason Crow, a retired Army Ranger, announced he was challenging Coffman. Crow welcomed Aarsetad to the race in an emailed statement. 

“I’m excited about the enthusiasm that is out there right now and I look forward to a substantive discussion on the issues,” Crow said.
