Former Rep. Jon D. Fox died of complications with cancer on Sunday at his home in the Philadelphia suburbs. He was 70.

Fox was first elected to the House in 1994 as part of the “Republican Revolution” that saw the GOP take control of both legislative chambers.

He won re-election in 1996 over Democrat Joe Hoeffel by 84 votes out of nearly 250,000 cast but lost the rematch in 1998 by five points.

After the election, Fox voted “yes” on all four articles of impeachment against President Bill Clinton.

Fox cut his teeth in local politics before taking on the national stage. He won a seat in the state House from Abington in 1984, replacing Hoeffel, who had retired. In 1992, he served on the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. 

“He was a legendary political figure in Montgomery County for decades. I’m 56 years old, and when I was a child, he was a major force,” Bruce L. Castor Jr., a Montgomery County commissioner from 2008 to 2016, told Philly.com. “Jon devoted his entire life to public service, and Montgomery County is the better for it.”

Fox is survived by his wife, Judi, his son Will, and two siblings.
