The Republican National Committee announced that it has four times more cash on hand than it had at this point ahead of the 2014 midterm elections.

The RNC said it raised $12.4 million in January and has a total of $40.7 million cash on hand.

In January 2014, the RNC had $9.8 million in cash on hand. That year, the GOP won the majority in the Senate.

“We are working hand-in-hand with Republicans in Congress and President Trump to enact a pro-growth agenda on behalf of the American people,” RNC Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel said.

The RNC also announced it had zero debt and said the total amount it had raised in the 2018 cycle was $144.9 million.

The RNC has largely outraised the Democratic National Committee in the past year. The DNC, which hasn’t yet released its January numbers, ended 2017 with $6.5 million in the bank and $6.1 million in debt.

Fundraising Reports Say a Lot About a Campaign

Also, while the RNC has consistently outraised its Democratic counterpart, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has posted large fundraising numbers.

The DCCC announced in January it had raised almost $9.5 million in December compared to the National Republican Congressional Committee’s nearly $4.1 million for the same period.

The RNC numbers come after finance director Steve Wynn resigned last month amid reports in the Wall Street Journal that he had pressured multiple women employees in his hotel empire to perform sexual acts.
