Jordan Opponent Says Donations Surged after His Rosenstein Questioning
Democrat Janet Garrett would not disclose how much money came in
Republican Rep. Jim Jordan’s Democratic opponent said she saw a surge in fundraising after Jordan’s exchange last week with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.
Retired Oberlin, Ohio, teacher Janet Garrett’s campaign spokesman told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that she got more donations in 24 hours than she did in the previous four months.
“This shed light on who Jim Jordan really is,” Zach Stepp said.
Jordan and Rosenstein had a tense exchange last week during a hearing in the House Judiciary Committee about the Department of Justice inspector general’s report on the DOJ’s conduct during the 2016 election.
During that hearing Jordan asked Rosenstein if he had ever threatened to subpoena phone calls and emails of Department of Justice staffers, to which Rosenstein responded “there’s no way to subpoena phone calls.”

But Stepp declined to say how much money was actually raised. Garrett lost to Jordan in 2014 and 2016 by significant margins.
In this race, though, Stepp has paid staffers and is being advised by Democratic consultant Joe Trippi, who managed former Gov. Howard Dean’s presidential campaign and was a consultant for Sen. Doug Jones’ shocker Senate campaign win.
Trippi stated his support after Jordan’s exchange in retweeting conservative commentator Bill Kristol calling Jordan a “reckless demagogue.”
