Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Wednesday that Senate Republicans won’t be deterred from voting this Friday on the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh by protesters in Senate office buildings.

“I don’t care how many members they chase, how many people they harass here in the halls,” the Kentucky Republican said. “We will not be intimated by these people.”

Security has been particularly tight around Capitol Hill this week.

McConnell also alluded to the recent incident in which Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and his wife were confronted by opponents of the Kavanaugh nomination at the D.C. restaurant Fiola.

The results of an additional FBI background review are expected to be made available to senators shortly, McConnell said in his opening floor speech.

“It’s time to put this embarrassing spectacle behind us,” McConnell said. “The Senate will vote on this nomination this week. The Senate will vote on this nomination this week.”
