A deal to bring the Jamba smoothie chain to the House side of the Capitol is “in the works,” according to the Office of the House Administrative Officer.

At an all-staff meeting Wednesday, Darnell Lee, deputy chief of human resources at the CAO, told the agency’s workforce that the smoothie chain would join the growing number of brand-name food offerings in the House.

The Jamba will be in the Longworth building. It will replace a bank of vending machines where a sign that reads “something sweet coming here soon” currently hangs. 

Local chain &Pizza opened in Rayburn in February and Au Bon Pain opened in Cannon in April. Renovations are currently underway in Rayburn to accommodate burger chain Steak ‘n Shake’s arrival in September.

Jamba is dropping the “Juice” from its name and branding in June. The chain offers smoothies, but along with the name change is also expanding its offerings with bowls and sandwiches with an emphasis on healthy options. Jamba has a loyalty program and at some locations customers can order online and quickly pick up their orders in store.

Jamba has another location in the neighborhood, on the main floor of Union Station.
