The House Republican Conference has released its August planning kit, and if you, as a House GOP lawmaker, weren't sure how to write an op-ed for your local paper, the conference has written one for you! As we reported on this blog Monday, the conference says in its kit that an "effective way to launch the August district work period is to write an op-ed for local newspapers." The op-ed, the memo explains, is an opportunity to preview the message you will communicate and the events you will hold throughout the month. "The op-ed should review the legislation House Republicans have acted on and are pursuing in Washington," it says. It's also a way to argue that Washington is the problem and you're working to fix it, as the op-ed helpfully outlines. But if you use this version, make sure you don't give any "boring speeches" at any of your recess events, because it promises you won't.
