High Jump

In June 1967, the Cannon Caucus Room might as well have been a schoolyard playground. Oregon’s famed Seneca Rope Jumpers swung into town and roped freshman Sen. Mark Hatfield into joining in the fun. This photo, which ran on the front page of Roll Call on June 15, proves the Oregon Republican and future Appropriations chairman was a natural. The Seneca troupe of grade schoolers hailed from a small logging community in the Blue Mountain region of eastern Oregon.
