Matsui to Take Energy and Commerce Slot

Rep. Doris Matsui (D-Calif.) is set to join the House Energy and Commerce Committee, a Democratic aide said. Matsui won the seat after a secret vote Thursday afternoon by the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee. The decision must now be ratified by the full Democratic Caucus, likely next week. The development will end a two-month vacancy on the panel created by the resignation of retiring Rep. Albert Wynn (D-Md.). The steering committee also granted waivers to two of the newest House Democrats, both serving on the exclusive Financial Services Committee. Rep. André Carson (Ind.) was cleared to take a slot on the Science and Technology Committee, and Rep. Don Cazayoux (La.) was cleared to join the Veterans’ Affairs Committee.
