House Lame Duck to Begin Wednesday

The House is officially set to hold a lame-duck session next week, beginning at 1 p.m. Wednesday, a senior Democratic aide confirmed Friday.

The agenda for the post-election session remains in flux, however. House Democratic leaders originally intended on passing a second economic stimulus bill next week but backed away amid strong GOP resistance. Now, Democrats are hoping to use the session to advance a $25 billion loan package for the struggling auto industry.

The Senate is looking to take up a similar auto loan measure, as well as other items such as an extension of unemployment insurance benefits and a public lands bill. The Senate also may try to push a broader economic stimulus package during next week’s session.
