Bean to Host Fundraiser for New Colleague Halvorson

Rep. Melissa Bean (D-Ill.) will host a fundraiser for Rep.-elect Debbie Halvorson (Ill.) to help retire the fellow Chicagoland Democrat’s campaign debt.

A veteran of tough and expensive campaigns of her own, Bean will headline a $200 per guest breakfast at the National Democratic Club townhouse in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 9.

Halvorson won an open-seat race in the 11th district with 58 percent of the vote last month by defeating Chicago-area concrete magnate Marty Ozinga (R). She will replace Rep. Jerry Weller (R), who held onto the seat for seven terms.

Halvorson reported having $237,000 in the bank on Oct. 15 — a small amount for a district that includes one of the most expensive media markets in the country. A transition team spokesman did not immediately return a request for comment on the size of Halvorson’s campaign debt.
