Kansas: Moore Says He’ll Seek Re-Election This Cycle

Rep. Dennis Moore said he plans to run for re-election in 2010, ruling out a possible open-seat Senate bid. Sen. Sam Brownback (R) is retiring and will likely run for governor.

“I am honored to be serving the people of the third district and have every intention of continuing my work in Congress on their behalf,” Moore said in a statement released Monday. Additionally, an aide confirmed that the Congressman will not run for Senate.

Rep. Jerry Moran (R) has already announced that he will run for Brownback’s seat, while Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R) is strongly considering making a Senate bid.

In related news, Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius (D) has withdrawn her name from consideration for a job in President-elect Barack Obama’s administration. Sebelius is often mentioned as Democrats’ best hope to win the Senate seat, but the governor’s office declined to comment on whether she was interested in the job.
