Top Legislative Affairs Deputies to Be Named

President-elect Barack Obama is bringing on Dan Turton and Shawn Maher to serve as top deputies in his White House legislative affairs shop, sources confirmed on Monday.

Turton and Maher will serve under Philip Schiliro, who was named last month as Obama’s legislative affairs assistant. Turton will be appointed as the top House liaison, while Maher will serve as the leading Senate legislative affairs aide.

Turton, who has been helping with the presidential transition effort, most recently worked as staff director for the House Rules Committee and previously served as floor assistant to then-House Minority Leader Richard Gephardt (D-Mo.).

Maher is currently the staff director for the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee under Chairman Chris Dodd (D-Conn.).
