Obama to Meet With House GOP

Incoming White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel has accepted an invitation for President-elect Barack Obama to speak to the House Republican Conference in the weeks after the inauguration, according to a source with knowledge of the decision.

The source said that Emanuel “enthusiastically” accepted the invite from the House GOP and that the meeting will occur in the near term.

Obama will not appear at the GOP’s annual retreat, however, which will occur in Hot Springs, Va., later this month, the source confirmed. Obama is expected to attend the House Democratic retreat in early February.

A call to Obama’s transition team was not immediately returned for comment.
