Clyburn Threatens to Introduce Resolution Condemning Wilson’s Remark

The No. 3 House Democrat says he will introduce a resolution of disapproval against Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) for shouting, “You lie!— during President Barack Obama’s speech Wednesday night if Wilson does not apologize to his colleagues on the House floor.House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) made the threat in an interview on MSNBC. He said that while he does not support a formal censure of Wilson, he would consider introducing a resolution of disapproval or asking Democratic leadership to do so. Wilson apologized to Obama immediately after the speech, and on Thursday Obama accepted the apology. However, Wilson refused entreaties from leaders in both parties during votes earlier Thursday to apologize on the floor.
