Colorado: Second Republican Seeks Salazar’s Seat

Rep. John Salazar (D) has drawn a second Republican challenger in the 3rd district.

Bob McConnell, a retired lawyer and Army officer from Steamboat Springs, recently filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to initiate a campaign against Salazar, who is in his third term representing vast swaths of western and southern Colorado.

Martin Beeson, a local district attorney, has been campaigning for the Republican nomination since April.

A decision is expected soon from state Rep. Scott Tipton (R), who lost decisively to Salazar in 2006 and won his present office in 2008.
