McCaul Foe Sheds “Exploratory” Label In Texas Race

After ten months and certainly more than $1 million raised, Texas technology executive Jack McDonald (D) apparently is done with the “exploratory” phase of his 2010 challenge to Rep. Michael McCaul (R) in the 10th district.

McDonald’s campaign on Friday filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission changing the name of his campaign committee from “Jack McDonald for Congress Exploratory Committee” to the more official-sounding “Jack McDonald for Congress.” He also filed a revised statement of candidacy.

The name change is much more cosmetic than substantive. McDonald, who formed his exploratory committee in February, has been campaigning and raising money as if he were an officially announced candidate. Exploratory committees almost always are precursors to full-fledged campaigns.
